Title: Petro reloaded
Post by: nyolc8 on July 11, 2014, 13:35
Just came into my mind... This is just an 5-10min work, just to show my idea. I just deformed my petro mod. I would make it nicely don't worry :D

actual work started on petro :P This time I won't follow any real truck for exactly, just some similarities will be applied like on the petro was.

And just to see that the lines are just because materials(and will be retextured so will be fixed), so I made the front really smooth:

well, I don't looked at the filesize yet because so many thing left... but it won't be that big, maybe as the other petro mod, or something like that. But the truck itself is huge :D I mean it's higher, the top of it will be at the same height as the trailers height.

edit: filesize is only 740kb now.

2 things! Make one version without the extra sleeper on the back, And do one IVF enabled!  :like:
Title: Re: Petro reloaded
Post by: nyolc8 on July 12, 2014, 11:36
It will be IVF supported, the last carmods I did was all IVF enabled. The reason I made that big sleeper is to maintain the truck length the same as the original petro length. Also if I push the front axle back to make it shorter, the truck will lose it's great turn angle because then the front wheels will get more near to the weight-point. So I don't really know how I'll able to make it nicely. I'll look into this after I finished it with the big sleeper.

I basically finished the main shape of it, but now it's time to work on the details and that's what takes really much time...

Some ingame test:

edit: made some test and it looks like I can make it enterable, so you'll be able to enter at the back and walk into the cabin area, the camera will zoom in, and you'll be able to see through over the top windows, also you be able to look out over the dashboard. All this on foot. Interior will be made like at400 was made. So it will be lighted.

I call them bull dog trucks lol

Fish, you are correct to call them cab overs. The original name for those type of trucks was cab over engine, or COE. It was later shortened to cab over, because it was the hip thing to say  8)

Taz, bull dogs are referring to mack trucks because of the bulldog hood ornament they have....at least, this is my understanding of it  :)

Nyolc8, keep up the good work! You are fulfilling the area of low-poly mods for those who don't have fast computers hehe. I like how you use existing textures for a lot of your mods. However, if you ever need textures photoshopped or need help adding textures to the txd file, let me know :D If you do it right, it won't increase the file size much...plus you will have custom textures  :D

Umm, where is the bed in that sleeper, I cant see it?
What about adding TV and other interior things as "extra", also horn on roof?
Maybe make that /trunk command open and close sleeper doors?
Where is the engine? And will you make openable bonnet? This (http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/robert_nagle/2012/10-14/k100_cab_tilted_800_x_600.jpg) would be epic.
Sorry for that much question-marks, its just sugestions.
You're making excellent job with editing that trucks and vehicles in gta.

Bed: Bed is at the top.
Horn and stuff: I know, many things doesn't done yet.
Extra parts: I want to do the exact same thing.
engine: The engine is under the cab.
bonnet: The cab(which is the bonnet on these trucks) won't be openable.
openable sleeper door: I would do it but I can't rotate the trunk(and bonnet) dummy to open sideways. If I rotate it, it still opens to the same default direction.

For side lights: if you look those, you can see I didn't even touched those yet, they're the same as on my previous petro mod (because it's that :D). So I'll modify them, I just didn't got in the process yet to change those. Now I'm working on the rear lights btw.

Other things I'll want to do:
- tweak the front bumper (fog lights, plate tray)
- put chrome rims on wheels (I think I'll use the rims I created for the tuned petro)
- make it IVF compatible
- look into how bumper-tanks-pipes would look with full chrome
- make the steering wheel real moving (as on my elegy, with IVF)
- some dashboard details
- some paintjob or lines to make it two colored
- tweak the tanks and the boxes at the bottom
- TV and laptop into the cabin with illuminated screen
- illuminated rear license plate for people without IVF or using older IVF.
- make sleeper cabin windows border nicer (adding a tiny chrome border or something like this)

These are the things that i know I want to do... Many more things might come in the work...

TV and nootbook (and little red LED on TV :P xd):

Sadly, GTA animation material (for example, the moving lights on buildings in LV uses animated materials) can't be used on vehicles, so I can't make TV screen to move, but it can show two different image by randomly on respawn (with extras). Each screen image made into seperate texture, so you will be able to change easily the display images to whatever you want (with a txd editor).

Between petro and linerunner, you shouldn't need any modifications. Between either of those and road train, it will need to be delagged. However, if you delag it for the road train, it will work on all three trucks without lag

Thanks for the information :)

All IVF lights done (not just textures, but coronas too), IVF moving steering wheel done. All "extras" done. i made chrome window borders to the top windows too.

I made "P" logos as petrol truck and just realized that it's proper name is "Tanker" so now I'll change that to "T"... >< :D

I'll try to make the collision to make the cabin more easy to access (now if you jump on the side of the truck, sometimes the character can't jump on there.)

Then comes the wheel-change. And two-colors. And then the final refinements, then damaged parts, aaaand... release.

^ same feeling!

Personally, LCD TV and windows 8 doesnt fit in this K100-tanker adit and GTA SA early '90s atmosphere. Big old cellphone will better fit, aswell as CB-radio and that things.

I hope you will made linerunner-friendly version of this (just de-lagging and position adjustment), because I have and like your tuned petrol mod, and this mod looks like linerunner - especially front grill and lights.
Title: Re: Petro reloaded
Post by: nyolc8 on July 15, 2014, 21:08
Made "rear bumper" so now the rear can damage visually. Modified the collision to make easy to jump onto the truck to access the cabin.

Remaining things to do:
- two color option
- refinements (especially shadow related small things)

Everything else seems to be done. Also after all these extra things that I added, I managed to reduce the dff filesize to just 666Kb :D (this will be a littlebit more when I add the second color lines) (txd filesize is 76Kb)

Images to see how it looks now:

I made laptop with osx mavericks into my tampa mod too. So I think this is not a huge issue :P But that CB radio idea is good, I will make something for that... :)

I'll make a version for linerunner to prevent lagg on that.

ENB and timecyc. I already posted them somewhere on the forums. I'll post it again here. (don't have time now)

It's already been stated that it will work on roadtrain if you just rename the files. (I'll test this before release.)

Btw I want to make the truckpack with IVF lights and also some optimizations, and some tweaks and more details. :)

Renaming the files to rdtrain won't work unless the mod has been delagged in zmod first.

Oh well... I'll look into this after I released it. But now I found something and I'll look into it tomorrow... maybe I can get a cool thing to implement into this truck... :)

Well I wanted to make it active dashboard compatible too (openable cabin, doors...) but:
1. active dashboard didn't even started for me
2. after hours of searching, I didn't found any proper documentation about how to adapt my vehicle for it.

so I gave up on that and made something with that unused boot dummy to comfort myself:

cables not attached to trailer:

and then cables attached to trailer:

I know it may look weird with some trailers so if you don't like it, just don't use the "/boot" command :D
