Dobby

Decided to upgrade my case and CPU cooler. I'm tired of the noise from the shitty stock AMD cooler (no intel fanboy comments please.) and i'd like to upgrade.

I'm buying from Overclockers UK because free Haribo.

Here's the parts i plan on getting:

CPU Cooler: Silverstone Argon SST-AR02 CPU Cooler - 92mm - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-008-SV&groupid=701&catid=23300

Case: Xigmatek Alfar Midi Tower Windowed Case - Black/Orange - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-075-XG&tool=3

They look good enough? or do you recommend any other CPU Coolers/Cases. Price cant be above £200 for each thing. I mainly want a case that can have an h100i added into it (that's if its as good as i've heard.)

Operating system:

Now i dislike windows 8. But i'll use it IF i have to. Shall i upgrade to 64 bit win8 or stay on win7 and get 64 bit version of that?

my current specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 clocked at 3.4ghz (i want to get 4.0ghz :P )
Ram: 8GB (limited to 3.0 due to OS)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce gtx 550ti 1GB
Case: CIT Mars Red

Looks fine to me.
About Windows 8: It starts up a bit faster and preformance is better (that's what Microsoft is saying) but visually it really sucks. Have Windows 8 on school computers and you waste quite a bit of time for searching stuff.
When i was buying a new PC i installed Windows 7 to it, #NoRegrets. It works really fine for me ;)

Get 64bit Windows 7 or 8, doesn't matter. Just get 64bit something.

For a CPU cooler, get this if it comes back in stock: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-CM

Well yeah... that's why I suggested it, because it's good.

I'm running a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO which is pretty recognized for budget CPU cooling. Got it running in a push/pull fan configuration (2x120mm). However it is a tall cooler so make sure it will fit in your case first. It'll fit in your proposed case (212 EVO is 158.5mm tall, your case allows up to 160mm). Also try to see if it will clear your RAM modules/slots as it might sit over the RAM modules. On my motherboard it literally goes over the RAM module with 3mm clearance...

If you want a h100i though, I would not buy a cooler yet and just save up for it.

And for the love of Gates, use a 64-bit OS before I come to you with a 64-bit install disc and do it for you. Windows 8 and Windows 7 are pretty much the same, apart from the interface differences. Windows 8 does require some learning, but to be honest I've been running either Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 (same interface) for the last 9 months and I would not call Windows 8 counter-productive to any of my workflows, I barely touch the start menu, I usually just use Win+S to search. And to me, my start screen beats the Windows 7 "recently used programs" start menu since it displays a lot more stuff at once (30 in W8, maybe 10-12 in W7?)

Finally, someone who doesn't recommend Windows 7 just because the start button isn't there.

Accept change people, is it really hard to put your mouse in the corner to get where you need? It takes no less effort than clicking on a button.
