Graphic problem

Started by Vinny, September 21, 2013, 18:41

Vinny

So today i got my new pc. It has an intel core i5 and is supposed to have a Radeon HD7670m. But it looks like it does not use it or did not detect it, it uses intel hd graphics 4000.

Any idea of what i could do ?

Do you have only one graphics card in device manager too? Did you tried to disable the integrated intel gpu via bios/uefi?

No honestly I used the pc for 2-3 hours and I'm away from home atm I mainly started to move my files from my old pc and set up all the windows shit etc and after testing GTA SA with and without stream fix the performances were still bad (30-40 fps at 1600x900) while it should be much much better so I checked a few parameters and noticed that the display is set in the intel graphics and there was no other choice (in the resolution settings you can select your resolution and select the card you want to use and for selecting the card I had the knu choice of the Intel HD graphics 4000)

Is this what you get? and then you have 2 or more selections of what device (monitor/card) to use?

7670M is mobile chip isnt it? have you gone to bios and checked what is the primary GPU?

Does device manager report any errors or do you see it there?

Run dxdiag and see if you see it there in video tab

I'm home in 15 max and yes I already checked dxdiag and it said the display is by Intel HD graphics. Wait 10-15 minutes and I'll try everything you said

Next time you boot the machine.. Go to bios (F1 or F2 usually, some BIOS uses F12. Read what it says on startup what to hit to enter BIOS/setup)
Then look around. In my case its under Hardware tab and then select between integrated and PCI (I think it says PCI even on laptops)

Do you have catalyst control center or any drivers installed for the 7670M? If you do, is it up and running in your -top?

Check your power 'saving' settings that it is not preventing it from switching the low power integrated to the dedicated chip.

Hey Vinny, I have i5 too and Intel HD4000 and a GeForce GT740M, and at my laptop it switches automatically when I open games. If that doesnt work you could try rightclicking on the program you want > run with > select videocard

Vinny

Hold on ill show you something that I can do in burnout, I'll provide a pic I can select the video card and the erring a of the game and the only choice is the intel 4000 but I can still run the game at max settings on max fps

Edit:

Picture bcuz I have only my phones 3G an can't catch wifi up in my room to post a screen but we see properly imo

So after browsing several forums i found out that almost every HP G-series laptop have the same issue they can't switch from fucking Intel 4000 to their performant graphics card. I think the only way left for me is to return the laptop and buy another one.

Also what i read around the internet about the G series that some said that the dedicated chip somehow got name of HD400 for some reason andthats why people are confused. Or then it really switches when you launch a game (how it detects it that its a game and not a youtube in fullscreen?) silently and you dont notice it.. Mind you laptop graphic chips are not powerful so you may not feel the difference so much

Joshy

Did you consider disabling the Intel graphics chip in the device manager?

Also there should be an option in AMD Catalyst thingy to always use AMD card, it might be "high performance", "no power saving" or something like that. Also, go into "Power Options" in control panel and make sure you are using the "high performance" power plan.

BIOS/UEFI might have option to disable "integrated graphics" or something like that, or you may be able to select "discrete graphics" as an option.

Don't waste your time anymore I tested all the things you said a long time ago + I changed the pc to another since 1 week (i5 + NVidia).

But thanks to everyone for at least trying to help.
