Pale Blue Dot

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

I love watching stuff like this, it relaxes the hell outta me. I remember watching something with James May a year or so ago, it had him in an SR-71 on the edge of space. That + HD = shocking shizznick. It makes you look at the earth in a different way.

It just shows how small we are, and how much we fuck up Earth.

We live in a beautiful place, in a beautiful world. Just think about what all our ancestors did to help the world to grow, to make the next generation have a better life. Now, we, are ruining all this. All the wars, all the pollution, every single little thing. Have you seen how big the universe is? And have you seen how lucky we are to be alive in this universe? Some people don't.

It makes me sad knowing that I won't be here for much longer and I won't be able to see every day of the Earth's life, and the evolution of it. We are all small, but we have a big influence on how Earth is, was, and will be.

It also makes me sad watching all those people die, mostly the innocent people. Everyone has a family. Think about how their family is when they get the news that their son/daughter/whatever died. I have lost a lot of friends, and they were all important to me. I'm sad that I couldn't do anything to stop their deaths. Sometimes, I think I should have been the one that's gone, and not them.

I've lost a friend that got caught in a line of fire, and she was one of the most important persons to me. We used to go to school everyday together, we used to lunch together... And now? Every single time I'm having lunch at home, I think about her. I couldn't go out lunching with other people... It would make me remind of her and I wouldn't stand being there. People ruin other people's lives. Directly or indirectly. I would LOVE if all my friends didn't go away, neither did I... But, when I do go away, I know I did my part here, and I know I've met awesome people here.

We should all take care of Earth, because it is the only reason why we're alive. If it weren't for Earth, we wouldn't be alive, probably. I wouldn't like to see Earth dying, but it's happening now due to wars, pollution, etc. We all have a big influence, as I said before, on this planet. We are ruining it, not improving it as we should.

Everything the Earth gives to us, we are taking it without returning anything good. Humans are just selfish, and most of us don't even see that...

This is one of these videos that I'd want to show everyone, because they don't have any idea of what they're doing... They just want power. They don't want freedom or a good life, just power...
