[Hobo]

I'm going to do a major upgrade on my current PC and would like your opinions.
What I have that I want to reuse: 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM, Western Digital 1TB Blue HDD, and a Gigabyte GTX 660 (I'd be getting another one for 2-way SLI)

Here are two builds I put together, which one do you guys like the best and why? The only difference is the CPU and Motherboard. Feel free to comment on other things.

I would go for the intel build if you are just going to do gaming.  The intel build has higher memory freq support if you plan to get that high clocked ram.  If you plan on doing lots of video editing/converting I would go for the amd build since most games can't utilize up to 8 cores from what I understand.  On the cpu I would go with an amd gpu but that's just me, nvidia works fine.

Personally, i would go for the Intel build. The extra 80 bucks for a CPU that can fully be used or whatever, go for that. Like Droc said, most games/programs dont and cant use all 8 cores to their max efficiency.

$640 without Windows. Shouldn't have any issue playing current games (except Watch_Dogs due to horrible optimization) on ultra settings @ 1080p.

I'm using one. It's fine, just loud as fuck. CPU stays below 60C while gaming.

True, the hottest mine has been was during prime95 stress testing, even then it hit 74c maximum after 45 mins (Core Temp says max is 83 for my CPU) . I just like my shit quiet thats all it goes too damn loud.

You oughta put a little trust in Ebay. As bad as Ebay sounds, I got me a R9 270 from there for $100 bucks flat, was nothing wrong with it either, no gimmicks.

There are a shit ton of Radeon HD 7970's for $200 bucks or less too, those are about the same as a R9 280X, so you people looking for a real good gaming pc for the price better look into that too.

AMD vs Intel, this coming from an AMD fanboy, Intel would probably be the better way to go. Ever since AMD went the APU only route, I started losing faith in them, and lets face it, the FX series can only do so much for so long. They're pretty damn power hungry but if you're okay with that (like I am), then you should have no problems.

I am. The RAM in the build is being reused from my current PC along with one of the HDDs. I'm running out of space on it so I figured I'd get another one.
Anything marked as purchased is being reused except for the CPU.
