CVT Right now, from start to finnish

Alright, so first of all I want to get some things clear. The reason I am writing this is because I love the concept of CVT. I love part of what has been done and I really hope to see this server back up and running like it did in the old days.

This is not a flame topic, I don't want to start a war, all I want is to try and expose my opinion hoping that some people will agree with me so we can make this server the server it could be.

I am an old CVT player. I left a lot, for small periods of time but I always kept coming back because, like I said, I love the concept of the game. I first joined CVT about 2-3 years ago, so I really saw it grow and now I see it fail.

So, for our newer players, I want to tell you how CVT was about a year ago: All 100 slots were often full and you couldn't get in the server. There were often no houses for sale, and when they were they were often 1 slot houses. People were fighting hard over 2 slot houses. Compare this with today and you can see the disaster: at peak times there are no more than 50 people on the server, there are 621 1 slot houses for sale, 109 2 slots, 17 3 slots and numerous other really big houses that used to belong to old time players. What this tells us is that people LEFT CVT and they keep leaving.

Why are people leaving and why is the community getting smaller?
I believe the causes are:
1. Some admins don't really deserve to be admins. Since I don't want to start war and flame, I will not give names. I have seen a lot of bad attitude from some admins regarding the way they are treating players. Admins need to be leaders. They need to know how to lead a community, how to build it. What most CVT admins are, they are cops. They are given the power to enforce the law (as in server rules) and suddenly they can't wait to apply it. They don't think a lot of stuff through. They like feeling powerful and they use it every time. They don't lead, they just apply the rules whatever the circumstances. They "shoot first and ask questions later" or they don't even bother to ask them.

2. Nothing new and very exciting was added to the server for a long time. Please take a look at the changelog from the last year and tell me 2 things that were added that change the server in a major way, adding awesome new features. Apart from the armor van and armor/thief job and some mapping, nothing changed in an entire year. This adding to the fact the the server is more puzzle-game like, causes people to easily get bored and leave.

3. I am sorry to be a little more language aggressive about this, but how hard can it be to get the technical aspect of a server with no more than 100 people sorted out? People are complaining about these lags and downtimes for half a year and nothing is being done. Or, what is being done has failed.

I believe this are the main aspects, and to summon up, I believe that it all comes down to the fact the the owners of CVT don't really care much about it. There could be any number of reasons, but the bottom line is that they don't invest enough resources into this, and I don't mean money, I mean time. Time to fix things, time to watch how things develop, time to see what players are doing, time to add new and exciting content, etc.

So, in order to fix this brilliant game and community, CVT owners need to either sell the game to somebody who has more time to invest in it, or start investing this time themselves. They need to start looking at the way admins take care of people and correct it, they need to start thinking of new and exciting things to add to the server at least once every month and they need to freaking fix all the hosting problems. And, I am sorry but if I have a car that I am no longer using, I sell it because I can make up some money and because it's no longer bothering me by being in the way. People's lives change and we welcome new stuff and we get rid of the old. It's perfectly understandable and normal that at some point, something comes up that is a lot more important than CVT. If people don't have time to take care of CVT, why still bother with it? It will destroy the community, and it will also be a pain in the ass for the owners who probably don't like it anymore.

I am sorry, but I am self-employed and I come from a world where if somebody does a bad job, he gets fired. This, although it might be harsh, it is best for the company whatever "the company" is.

Some of you may know what League of Legends is. It is by far the most successful game at the moment. Why? It is no big secret: Fast reliable servers, changes and exciting things added almost every week, community oriented on anti-flame and cooperation between players not by enforcing it but by convincing them that it is better this way.

Most people will probably not understand what I tried to summon up here. They will consider this spam or flame (as stated by some server rule) but I know they will understand I was right when either CVT community starts to grow again as a result of the implementation of some of the changes I mentioned or they end up leaving because of one of the problems I stated above.

#2) Now that we have more scripters I have a feeling we'll see more updates to the game. I know Joshy is currently working on optimizing the gamemode to help reduce at least some lag.

#3) Our current host is fine and can host the server well unless we are being attacked. Unfortunately we currently can't afford a host with good DDoS protection.

#1)  I agree with everything you wrote. There are a select few staff members who have let the "power" of their position go to their heads. They find it easier to ban players to make them stop talking. What they don't understand is that the more you suppress someone or a group of people, the more they try to lash out. Eventually they can no longer be suppressed. Banning without first obtaining proof has happened a few times now. It's really pathetic to be honest. Konali was a staff member and admin who kept everyone in line. At times I didn't agree with him, but he kept the staff team from being "dictators" of the server and forum. I use the term "dictator" simply because they currently call themselves that. It's a game, let players have fun.

Now that Joshy is a moderator, I hope he can help keep certain staff members in check.

I like this post man. You deserve a giant jar of cookies, but as harsh as this may sound, there are alot of posts like this. Mick's tryin, as hard as he can, even though it's kind of disappointing that this is the result of his effort. And the admin team could use a bit of a makeover but all qualified candidates up and outed, or probably got ignored (well Shane got accepted, he's deserved it for literally years).

WoW What an awesome topic with 100% truth

Yeah CVT was one of the best servers (if not the best) with awesome community.This was the reason why i played so much here,i did not play anything but CVT.Honestly CVT started to be shittier since Mick choosed new admins.When only Mick,Hax,Vado were the admins then EVERYTHING was fine.They understand the jokes and were not dictators + they knew what they are doing.They did not warned/banned people for pathetic things.The moderators were also great guys back then

I remember when i could hardly join to the server even using a trick so i had to donate in order to get a VIP but sometimes even VIP member could not join because the server was 100/100 with NO LAG.This was the era of the house campers LOL Almost everyone camped desperately for 2 or more slot houses because it was so hard to get it due to the server being extremely popular

Look now how many houses are available.More than 700!It tells you everything about the server!

Now the reasons:

1: Well abusing staff members...not this is the main reason but a partly reason.Like i said before CVT started to be shit when Mick choosed new admins.These admins choosed their friends as moderator who abused their powers.Im not saying every staff members abuse their powers,but most of them do it.So all im saying is staff members abused their powers in the old days too but then people did not give a shit about it because the server was awesome so they tried to deal with it.However currently staff members SHOULD STOP THIS BULLSHIT because this dying server does not need this.How about waiting till the server goes to 100/100 and then you can abuse your power as much as you want but now please stop it for a while

And dont give me this bullshit excuse: Everyone has different tolerance level because as example warning for saying "you suck" or "fuck off" is PATHETIC.No wonder people leave this server when they cant even say things like that.Admins did you know people DONT LIKE DICTATORSHIP SO STOP IT PLEASE!

2: I dont agree with this thing.CVT has so many things that people never got bored of it

3: Bad server....yes this is the main reason why CVT is dying....DDOS attackers screwed this server so bad

I can understand that Mick does not give a shit about CVT because the real life is more important but then he should close this server or give it to someone

I wish CVT would never die but unfortunately it will happen.It's too late to do anything.Me and some other guys warned the community that CVT need changes but nobody listened us.Now this is the result

Terrorista is not liked , thats normal i guess:) But he does spend alot of time as cop or trucker, but he uses vulgar language from times, but since this is a 18+ game, the open internet, who are we kidding actualy? I resigned because i had no longer the motivation to act as a ''school teacher'' where i feel people are responsable for their own mistakes/ actions. The word ''troll'' / template/nickname has been given out so easily to others, i feel its disrespecting to put certain people in such ''groups''. I do not think we have ''trolls'', but they cannot accept eachother's opinions or ways of thinking/ speaking. And that collides with eachother.


The fact those players are still here, even terrorista, after his pilot license was taken away by me for a few months , shows me, they also care about CT . People that care about CT should not be named trolls in a negative way.


1: Staff is getting so much trouble, and the reason for it is pretty simply, the players / community does not feel that things are being handled justified, or they are taken seriously. If there was no reason for complaints, you would not see any. I am not saying  staff is bad or abusing, but the reason there are complaints against you as staff member, is the cause of your actions. You can grow, learn and accept , you have powers, but those powers do have consequenses, or keep being complained at. As an example, I have been complained at 4-6 times in 3 years of staff. Joshy was complained at about the same. Do you see a patron? Think with your head, not the /ban command etc. Not everything has to be handled with rules or punishments. Talking/ common sense and use of your opinion helps alot.


2:[size=78%]The scripters have done alot behind the scenes, but yes there where no mayor changes. But that is also because, mick in the end needs to approve things, and big changes, need alot of time/ scripting etc. Dobby and Matt always said while i was staff, im happy to help out and implement something big, but i do not have the time for such things besides school/work. I can only work on it every X days? . Now with Joshy added to the team, i would not accept big changes directly, but i think its safe to assume, a cool update now and then will occur.[/size]


Also do not forget, the  ''trucking'' part of CT gamemode cannot be altered so much it would be new.  Its close to perfect/done etc. There are other areas where they can expand/ chance things. But with every update you have to ask yourself, what will it bring, and what will it take away from the gameplay/experience.




3: Mick cannot afford/ will not put so much money into the server that it will be able to rent a DDOS protected one etc. thats fully normal and i think we can only accept that. Mick could maybe consider VIP packages or other stuff that would gain them something. Throwing a ball up here:)




Opinionated posts are good, and keep things sharp etc. But in the end you gotta realise, there is only so little they/ we can do. Everyone is doing it voluntary and if you guys want real change, opinionated posts will not help that much , but there has to become a plan.

If terror is such a badass, there is a report section where you can report him. But idont see so much there. Perhaps because he was given this ''troll'' name once, and never got rid of it. In the end, its easy to call someone a troll for things that he or she has done during 3 years. I could be classified as troll also, i fucked things up with players and wannabes alot, but since nobody gave me the title '' troll'' , its ok.


Anway that was all:D And for the record im not defending staff or the community. If staff where to follow rules and guidelines and take things non strictly but punish where really needed and non power actions, and the community/ players where not to provoke or break any rules, everything would be ok right:)

How many times was Terrorista reported?Bunch of times.I know he rams people 24/7 but people hardly can catch him.It's like he rams 100 times per day but get caught only once.Everyone knows it he is a big trouble maker who should get perm ban so dont act like hes an innocent player

I really respect all players of this community, especially these players who use this forum.I have a bigger respect for these players who assume what they do or what they say.
Even some of you think that I don't have any respect for Hobo,Vinny,Sveki etc.(I think you know who I'm talking about) But I probably have a bigger respect for they because they are old players here and are still playing here more or less.But sometimes I'm just thinking that they really wait for a staff member to make a mistake to have what something to report, which isn't good.
If players will assume that they broke the rules,I'm 100% that staff members will assume what they did.Because it's hard to do a good punishment when some players are watching you.

I wont say anything more because I don't want to start a war again.

I repeat, my intention wasn't to blame someone or starting a war.

There are 3 things that if changed would be better for all people, not telling any names since the persons this is directed to can figure it out for themself.

1) Don't let emotions play a role in your staff position, biggest example was Sveki's name change, that caused a lot of trouble because of feelings/emotions of that certain staff member.

2) Keep calm and don't ban simply because you got the power to (and later ask for a removal or lowering), also if you tell you calmed down then really make sure you did/are doing that before telling it (twice already?).

3) When players request proof (you know what proof is reasonable), give it to them, recent (forum) bans have shown what I mean.
