Title: GTA V Network
Post by: $wedenTrucker! on April 25, 2017, 13:44
Hey Guys.

I can't and probably is not the only one here who has seen this GTA V Network thing. I saw a thread here similar to this one but i start a new one anyway.
What you guys think about this?  I tried it myself and its almost like SAMP but in a GTA V style.

I think in the coming years, it will be as popular as SAMP was back in the days, considering the amount of player GTA V has as of today.

It'd be great to see CT on GTA V if possible.

Yes thats kinda what i was looking for, would be awsome if CT got into GTAV. Its never gonna be like old days on SAMP, but everything need to get replaced sooner or later

Two similar projects got taken down by rockstar in the past few years before even being opened to the public, let's see how long this one lasts

I'm pretty sure that, as rockstar gets closer and closer to the end of GTA 5, they'll probably stop giving a fuck about such projects since they squeezed out all the money they could get from players.

It would be cool to have a trucking server in GTA 5, no doubt that. Just not CT, I don't want rage place, GTA 5 edition.

This is why people shouldn't get their hopes up. This is the 4th GTA V Multiplayer mod I've heard of now, they could at least wait til RDR2 before rockstar won't care if they're making it.

This, the SoE rp server has been up for months now so it's not like Rockstar instantly takes down any mp instance released.

CVT GTA V when? C:-)

As an active Gta V player I would totally join CT again if it came to the game. Samp has gotten old and my pc for whatever reason likes to run it at 10fps unless im looking at the ground

a server like Convoy Trucking or Truckmania on FiveM would work, there is public for it, there is people who doesn't want to roleplay too seriously (I am one of these) and do trucking, courier and even bus jobs, the GTA V map is perfect for it, with tons of warehouse and depots, atm FiveM servers 90% of them are Roleplay

doesnt have to be a convoy trucking or truckmania oriented server.. someone just make a trucking server!! hell I would play ga vmore if there was a general server not RP focused.. I want the other 10% to have fun on

I went ahead and looked at the details of hosting and coding for the server, it's mostly C# which I'm familiar with (2nd/3rd programming language I learnt). Let's see if we can take CT there.

I was interested in the idea of having a GTA V server for CT back when FiveM wasn't shut down by R*, now they're back which is great!

What's more popular by the way, GTA V Network or FiveM?

FiveM is certainly more popular due to the controversies it had in the past, all I noticed was roleplay server on their server list, so it might be a good idea to start a trucking one. However I feel we should wait for GTA orange to be finished, it uses Raknet (same as SAMP) and will sync better than FiveM or any else. Also it supports multiple languages allowing us to create better and powerful scripts. (Classes pop into mind atm)

It'd take some time before CT is there on GTA V, I'm not sure if its worth building CT for FiveM whilst there are other clients that are being developed and may prove to be better than FiveM. It'd be difficult at later point to migrate from one client to other as two I've seen uses different programming languages. So we should wait for a bit and see if any of them becomes as popular as SAMP.

I have started doing live stream but it's a difficult thing when you have limited data for day and a laptop. I'll try to set up an Adsense account so maybe I can earn a bit to assemble myself a PC good enough to handle the AAA series and one to capture the game and encode them so they could be live streamed.

I think what Carl is trying to say is that FiveM is not a prime platform for the game, one of the other ones would work better, and it would be difficult to translate the gamemode from FiveM to the other client if the time came. So wait and see if a better client becomes popular and build on that.

If you what you mean by "basics" is design (i.e. a features list or a suggestions board) then okay, but otherwise that implies starting to code on top of a platform which may or may not be relevant in the future which is a risky thing to do. Also known as, living on the bleeding edge.

If they got into that and "prepared it" for the right time it would have been a lot of hard work for nothing if that client suddenly goes down or its not the popular one anymore and then they have to start from scratch again

Rockstar is killing GTA5 in my opinion. They keep milking the online mode, and it's getting pretty boring.

They are still making good money out of GTA V by pushing updates that requires a lot of IG money and experience which can be gained by buying shark cards.
I don't think they will let other multiplayer clients survive for long as of now (as long as they are still making money).

OpenIV did reverse engineering (it's forbidden) people shouldn't be asking for the OpenIV "unban", they should be asking to Rockstar to upgrade their anti cheat system on GTA Online, hackers ruined this game, every session has one, and everyone loves then when they drop some money to you, so next time someone drops money to you, report him, they ruined this game, and it's their fault to what's going on now...

From a reddit comment I made a few days ago:
QuoteYou can however blame this [DDoSing] on Rockstar skimping on resources for online networking, and not using dedicated servers for online (dedi servers are a lot more expensive compared to a few matchmaking servers,) which is hilarious since GTA V is one of the highest profiting games of all time yet other games like Battlefield and CS:GO have dedicated servers.

Dedicated servers would also really help in solving cheating and online mods, since currently the "truthful" game state is dictated by the lobby host (the modder,) which in networked software development totally contradicts the rule "never trust the client." If the truthful game state was set by a dedicated server run by R*, then it would be much easier to implement anti-cheat validation measures.
If Rockstar had just used dedicated servers in the first place, online modding wouldn't be a such a big problem to deal with and their economy would be much harder to get modded money into = possibly selling more shark cards (if players weren't pushed away from the grind that is GTA Online).

that's a theory i had considered as well, investing in dedicated servers would have probably ended up being more profitable for them on the long run thanks to better anti-cheat measures

As a modder this is a bit offensive. I tried every time I played to use my mods in a way that either helped me but didnt bother other players or used them with other players to make the game more fun (custom maps, custom cars, help completing missions etc) and when one of those annoying modders comes in and starts godmode killing everyone or blowing up the lobby I use my mods to get rid of them till either I crash or they leave.

Yes I know I am a very small minority in my use of mods, I get it most modders were dicks, but not all of us were trying to trash everyones enjoyment.

Exactly, thats what I try to be. I remember one time flying around in the flying yacht and had 3 or so people trying to stay on it while I flew around the map, harder than you think even for a blimp
