Title: Need Help With GTA V Crashing My PC.
Post by: Jenova_Project on May 10, 2015, 19:59
I thought I would come and ask on this forum seeing that a number or players from CT now plays GTA V. I was wondering if any of you have encountered the same thing I have. My PC Specs will be below. I don't know if this has anything to do with hardware or if it is a corruption in the games files from when I installed it. Whenever I play GTA V for a short period of time on my PC, I noticed that my PC will completely just power down as if the power went out. My whole computer tower just shuts off and I would need to restart my PC. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card. I have even turned down all the setting for GTA V in-game and it still does it. Help anyone?

PC Specs:
8GB (2x4GB) RAM
AMD FX 6300 (Vishera) 6 core processor, 3.5 GHz (4.1 GHz Turbo)
Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X Windforce Graphics Card. 4GB Memory.
PSU: 750 Watt
Platform: Windows 8.1

Press Windows Key + X > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced tab > Under "start-up and recovery" click Settings > uncheck "automatically restart".

It sounds like your computer is blue-screening.

My computer doesn't show a blue screen or anything. Nor does it restart on its own. It literally powers down and I need to press the power button again to restart my computer.

Switch to directX 10... some say that helps.. other thing could be that your system gets really hot wich it does when you play gtav ... make sure you have good cooling for your cpu, gpu and especially for the hard drive. My friends had this problem if the fans for cooling were turned off.

I need to go out and buy a fan then xD. The only fans I have is the one of the CPU, 3 on the GPU and 1 on the back of the case, and one on the front of the case. I still have room to mount 2 more fans on the top of my chassis.

Watch your temperatures. It sounds like it's over heating and shutting down to avoid damage. GTA V is a CPU intensive game more so than GPU and the 6300 isn't the greatest CPU for heat. Do you have the stock heatsink or an aftermarket one?

Depends on the system. My CPU doesn't go over 70C. My CPU fan is set lower and peaks at around 60%. My GPU hit's around 70C as well but fans are at 50%.

Anything under 90-95C is fine. Your GPU will probably never hit 80C anyway.

The hottest my new setup has gotten is 65C on low fan speed (2 buttons on the top of my tower) but its basically open all around to let hot air out so your case has a bit to do with it as well
