Title: Roadtrain v2 work started
Post by: nyolc8 on July 20, 2014, 14:55
So the main change in this v2 is that the whole truck scale and sizes will be changed to make it more realistic. I think the default rdtrain is way to bulky and too wide. It's just not realistic... so I make it to like this (only the front scales changed yet):

[imgur]http://imgur.com/a/WOsen#5[/imgur]

Other plans:
- IVF
- sleeper(with interior) and non-sleeper version
- refine/change everypart of the truck to make it more realistic

cabin shape changed, made the truck shorter, and moved the front axis a littlebit back which may cause to be able to turn in smaller circle (didn't tested yet).

Sleeper cabin will be wider.

Wow, the actual work is started on it. I'm waiting for it.
Really like the new boonet and lights. Just don't change RD too much, because then it wont be original RDtrain which everybody remember.
Keep up good job, and keep us informed about updates you made.

EDIT: just now I saw new update. Like the bigger tank, but shape of sleeper roof is somewhat different from original roadtrain althrough its nice.

If I wouldn't change the shape of things, then it won't be more realistic.

The weather is too hot here now to do anything else... So I just modeling  and sitting under the AC :D And I have too many ideas and I have to make it till it's in my mind :P

Redone the front windshield thing, removed the red-orange sign from the front bumper (maybe I'll re-add itt later), and remade the roadtrain sign with it's own texture. Re-added the extra lights. Also tweaked the "RT" sign and added more elements (borders) to the grill

Looks beautiful. I love how fuel tanks look, and RT logo is really nice, also shape of truck look cool, modernized version of good old roadtrain with nice wide cabin..
What about roof top height, it is same as cargo trailer?
Just a idea: made /boot comand control hoof height, so you can made it lower of higher. But i think it wil then go into interior, and look ugly.

Stacks or the exhaust on the back of the truck

My Phone lol
I can't do that because the smoke would come from just one exhaust... The double exhaust specified in handling.cfg and that's a no-go in samp.

***

I had to totaly recreate the top of the sleeper cabin because the original model had so strange poligon set there which made impossible to build in windows into that. the collision for enterable cabin basically done, the cabin will be much more smaller, but it will be accessible from both sides. it will contain a bed, some table or kitchen stuff, a tv, and a cabinet.

Post by: abeceda on July 21, 2014, 15:05
I would too love to see two exuast (that was also mine suggestion which I wrote in other topic) but I totally forgot about smoke and agree with nyolc8 that it will look ugly - like only half of the engine working. If its supossed that roadtrain have just one exuast, then it'll have just one. Sorry TAZ, but not all players have CLEO and mod you're using.

Please give us more screenshots from WIP process, wanna see how you're progress with cabin and interior entrance from rear side doors. And keep the fenders on rear tyres, as original Mack Titan also have it.

Some ingame test, also you can see that the trailer won't come off so easy when you make a sharp reverse turn with trailer:

[imgur]http://imgur.com/a/aYP2q#0[/imgur]

Btw I think it turns slightly better than before.

Left to do:
- fix many small bug
- tv screens
- extras
- rear lights and rear bumper section
- interior with working steering wheel and more detail
- damaged elements
- refinements

Fantastic interior! It wont be able to see from rear side of cabin to front, where is dashboard and windshield? I mean, passengers wont be able to see road from rear-cabin throught windshield (like from your cabover petrol reloaded mod)? Dont forgot curtains so people cant look at me while I'm sleeping.

Anyone who want help nyolc8 (if nyolc8 has not already made that) - delete WikiGTA watermarks from this picture: http://nl.wikigta.org/images/c/c3/San-Andreas-Map-Printervriendelijk.gif (you can see that map in cabin interior).

Who want another roadtrain tuned version beside this beauty? Lets leave nyolc8 finish emergency vehicles (or whatever he wants and have idea in his mind) first :)

I must agree at this, but then I will have too much choice between mindblowing trucks. My truckpack now consists of petrol tuned + trailer, petrol cabover as linerunner, and current roadtrain from truckpack with 14in2 trailers. If I have to choose between this roadtrain and tuned version, it will be hard decision. So, for me, what nyolc8 made for this three trucks is enough (like he said, just made few changes, include IVF and relase truckpack v2) - if he constantly work on these three trucks he will probably never (or not before autumn,
when it is not so hot so nyolc8 wont sit below air conditioning and modeling this beauties for us) move on new mods, for example finish the emergency pack (policepack v2 with firetruck and ambulance, re-do other vehicles etc).

because its lifted.. its starting to look more like and off road type truck and smaller... creat a specaial dumper trailer for it and make it as a pack, it will look great. I would not use it for artic.. maybe fuel but again a diferent trailer would be needed so it would fit in to the look of the truck itself, if you know what im saying.

It looks smaller because of the chassis is taller. Also the truck that the original gtasa roadtrain based on (especially which has this huge bumper on it) has this high suspension in real life.

When I first modded trailers I wanted to make all of them with full flat bottom. But I simply can't do that while keeping them compatible with default gta sa trucks. It's because the attach point and the wheels vertical positions are so far from eachother. And I have to leave them as they are to keep the compatibility and keep them lagg-free.

Here's an image to see what I'm talking about and I made a simple modification to the default trailer to see how would it look:

See that epic gap between the wheels and the trailer bottom? Now that's why I can't make full flat bottom trailers. ::)

I know what you mean, I just wanted to show you why I can't make it full flat. If I make the bottom of it full flat, then the bottom will be too far over the wheels. So there will be an ugly space over the wheels, because I can't move the bottom of the trailer down and can't move the wheels up.

no way, there is much to do:
- fix shadow inside (this will be the most hard part)
- make damaged parts
- rear license plate
- wheels
- dashboard with some lights
- extras
- more interior parts

Btw I recreated the sleeper cabin shadow, also modified/moved the interior walls to fix shadow flickering. Very like how this project progresses - look from the cabin through windscreen is breathtaking, better than from petro-cabover because of height.

Do you guys want new "paintjob" for the 2 colors? Because I can't decide if I want to do one or not :D
I like idea of your paintjob, but the top of the sleeper looks like its solid color so my suggestion is to include painjob on top of the sleeper. I made two examples in paint, and also edited GTA SA map image you use for interior (removed Wiki GTA watermarks):

Screen on TV is mirrored (at least program logo "CT" is). Fan on dashboard is good idea althrough truck itself have cabin ventilation. But yeah - made it if you can, because it will look cool. Change streering wheel design (not cross-like), if that isnt too hard. Cb radio, I dont like when its above and wire hanging over windscreen. Maybe you can place CB radio somewhere on dashboard and also FM radio/tape (or even CD) player will be great to have in truck. For hooker idea, well it would be preventing me from doing a trucking job so I dont like idea to have hooker on my bed in truck :P

Put some orange parking lights on rear side of sleeper, near third brake light. Rear red turn indicators looks weird for me, I dont know how its on real truck but I'll like if you change color to orange. You can also put some tyre blockers and cones on rear side of sleeper, toolbox, battery box (Nado's suggestion)... My opinion - 4 orange lights on front top cabin between sirens is just too close to each other, 3 lights will be better. For bug shield, I think that middle holder (which is higher than other two) looks little weird. I also saw that some truck have just two holders, and I think that it will be better if you remove middle one and leave just two mounts.

artict3 has 3axle in my 14in2 trailer pack.
Can't add 4th axle, because the game only handles 3. (I know it's possible by setting one wheel as an axle but that looks stupid when suspension moving.)

@abeceda: Thanks for the cleaned map. :) I won't change the paintjob, it was too much work to change it now again. I thought about adding light at the top of the sleeper cabin, I didn't decided it yet, how it should be. The 4 lights at the top of the cab are wrong, you right, I think I saw something wrong before and I thought there is 4 on these. In america, all cars and trucks have red rear indicators so I won't change that. I like CB hanging there. I'll see if there is another texture for the steering wheel which would look "truck-ish" because I saw that mack roadtrains have different type of steering wheel. The bug shield I created is based on real images I found, and there is a middle holder too (btw maybe I'll make the bug shield glass colored to match with the truck color). I don't know what a tyre blocker is. I'll add toolbox, and maybe battery box somewhere.

The hooker without any moving would look like you transporting a dead woman...xd

actually succeed to make the fan propeller spin with IVF :D And used the spoiler animation for that oO XD So it starts to spin if you go fast. But then if you stop, it's and even if you get out the truck and walk into the sleeper cabin, you can see it still spining on the dashboard :D

edit: the only problem is it's keeps spinning around wrong axis... I can spin it on X and Y axis but not on Z axis... I would need Z axis ._. I'm trying to fix it...

edit2: okay, I got Z-axis but now the object rotated xd

So the fan works, here's how:
- you accelerate, fan turns on for some time - now it works for 5minutes, don't know what time it handles without crashing the game lol - then after that it's starts spinning backwards 5minutes then stops. So basically it's start for 5minutes spinning cycles relative to how your speed changes because I use this as a "spoiler" technically.

for the full flat-bottom trailer: it maybe possible to make it look right and keep it flat, but it won't be an easy work. I'll have to rotate the whole model to lift up the front of the trailer while keeping it's dummies in place. And it may still buggy.... So I don't know how I'll make that.

The graphics you see here is with the original timecyc (I think. lol). So when I develop a truck, I use modloader to be able to test models quickly without gta3.img editing. And when I use modloader, the timecyc is different than what I use, so I think that's the original. And I just noticed that maybe it looks better with the original, than the modded one... So I'll look into this and after that I upload my whole graphics mod pack.

Okay but why did you mentioned it? I use modloader for develop because it's fast, I don't need to pack dff into any img. I just copy the dff, txd files into "modloader" folder and boom they loading in the game. It's much faster for testing when I modify the dff again and again and again. I don't need to repack the img every time.
