Sound Recording Session - Scania Recovery Truck

We hear you loud and clear - yes indeed, we are taking longer with the 1.9 ETS2 update than we anticipated. Sorry about that. Things have been looking very good for some time already, we are almost there, but we always find out from the beta testing feedback that a tweak is needed here or there. Rather than rushing the patch out, we prefer to tune it until we are happy, you know that this is the way we prefer to work. This upcoming update is of course not the end of the road - we have quite a roadmap of improvements for the game still planned for 2014 and beyond!

To prove that we are still around, here is a little video from a sound recording event we performed over a week ago already, finally we managed to cut it into a cool YouTube movie...

Euro Truck Simulator 1.9 Open Beta

It has taken us a lot of fine-tuning, but finally we are very close to releasing the 1.9 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jQvI-7npJEc/UxSndc6BlWI/AAAAAAAAApo/eUGvk0FR7fU/s1600/ai2.jpg)

We have spent considerable time in closed beta testing, and we feel the stability of the build is now very solid. That's why we would like to invite everybody in our fanbase for the final check. Hopefully, if things prove solid under such a scrutiny, the final official retail/Steam update may only be hours or at worst days away from us.

We are making the open beta only available on Steam. We know that there might be grumbling about it, but as each additional publicly available patch causes future patches to get bigger and take longer to apply, we try hard to avoid having to release hot-fixes to major game updates.

(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YtduZE74n7Y/UxSndVGEN4I/AAAAAAAAAp0/Pv3aw_-cZ9c/s1600/ai1.jpg)

The 1.9 update is one of the largest patches we have ever worked on, hence the long time to wrap it up. Work on the new vehicle AI code has actually started even before ETS2 was released, some year and a half ago, but we gave it all the time it needed to mature. It replaces the entire traffic AI code with a new system. Its far more flexible, and it is paving the way for yet more improvements in the future (country-specific behavior of traffic lights is a much needed planned feature for the future for example).

We would like to thank everybody actively participating in our closed beta group for help and feedback. We were also fortunate to have one of the beta testers already prepare a little comparison clip showing the changes in the AI, thanks Tomáš!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoO5jer-Vpk

You will find the 1.9 update in the branch "public_beta" on Steam. Make sure to back up your player profile so that you have a way to revert back to older version of the game if needed. Please use our Message Board to provide technical issues feedback, it allows for better parsing of the info for everybody rather than just blog comments: http://forum.scssoft.com/viewforum.php?f=143. Thanks!

To recap the highlights of the 1.9 patch:

Code:
Brand new traffic car AI system;
Improved maneuverability, touches to suspension and collision physics (more work planned still);
Early support for Oculus Rift and gamepad-controlled mouse cursor;
Improved handling of automatic gearbox (more gears, interaction with cruise control);
Improved compatibility with semi-broken prefabs used in mods;
Improved error handling in radio playback.

Models:
Scania Streamline improvements (model, textures, paint jobs, new parts and accessories) - you may need visit truck dealer and re-purchase some parts;
Volvo FH16 improvements (interior, wipers, shadows);
Iveco Hi-way improvements (dashboard computer, shadows);
Paintjobs are properly applied on add-ons in interior views;
Map improvements.

Sound:
V8 engine sounds for Scania R and Scania Streamline.

Metallic Paints - Free DLC coming soon!

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g42URVDYgDs/U2OxlGxlwwI/AAAAAAAAAu0/Nt2notubGs8/s1600/00.jpg)

For a while we have been working on enhanced system of truck paint shaders allowing for flip paint with metallic layer.

(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9P8ysJPYKDk/U2OxnYryrrI/AAAAAAAAAvA/dDDc19B6-KM/s1600/01.jpg)

The new effect will be available alongside the standard truck paints in paint shop color selection options. It is quite a bit more sophisticated paint shader with wider setup options.

(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UI480NL-V_g/U2OxneeTzxI/AAAAAAAAAu8/2GZHlNu0B0I/s1600/02.jpg)

The color supports flip paint effect with metallic layer.

(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EbnDjuPY2WI/U2Oxsmh3V2I/AAAAAAAAAvU/74f4qZZvZfo/s1600/03.jpg)

(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bIRk_4zvCJ8/U2Oxr_8NOkI/AAAAAAAAAvM/UM9IkVDLtsQ/s1600/04.jpg)

With this effect, the paint can combine up to 3 customizable colors which are shifting into prominence based on viewing angle.

(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-emqZoA2WHds/U2Ox0Y7MOUI/AAAAAAAAAvs/kXcYtLL2GHk/s1600/05.jpg)

Custom metallic paints support will be available in the next patch. It will be accompanied by a free DLC containing several ready-made paint jobs which use new effect and some additional tricks for maximum effect.

(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rd6ix-obkc4/U2Oxy2jlfYI/AAAAAAAAAvc/JQykYHNS_os/s1600/06.jpg)

(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p92SuDmmyuI/U2Oxy8XvBMI/AAAAAAAAAvg/EanVmSl8aEQ/s1600/07.jpg)

This is our way of saying thanks to all of you for your ongoing support. Once the DLC is released, you'll receive a message via upcoming World of Trucks Event system with your Steam activation code.

[size=10.5pt]New countries, new opportunities[/size]
[size=10.5pt]During development of DLC Scandinavia we felt that our roads need further push of variation and fidelity.

There are tons of new assets like new highway junctions, local roads with new crossroads, or new types of roads with different lane count on each side, as it often happens in reality. The main idea off course is to make sure they actually look and feel close to their actual Scandinavian representation.

Check out the following screenshots that bring a little glimpse of how it is shaping up:[/size]

Still that "one lane forward, one lane to turn" junction on a highway... Are that kind of junction on a highway actually exist? I don't think so. It's so stupid... I don't get why they keep that when there is "two lane forward, one lane to turn" type junction in the game. Which is more realistic.

BUT If I don't count this, it looks very cool.

ETS2 Steam Achievements are live now! (http://blog.scssoft.com/2014/09/ets2-steam-achievements-are-live-now.html)
[/b]

(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nft6jVuwC3o/VCl7HCY8gmI/AAAAAAAABGM/zQ2XyG8rml8/s1600/001.jpg)
It took a longer than anticipated testing process to produce the Steam Achivements Update a.k.a Update 1.13 for Euro Truck Simulator 2, but finally, quite late tonight, we are here with the release on Steam!

The central feature new to this game update is the introduction of Steam Achievements, as described in our earlier blog post (http://blog.scssoft.com/2014/08/getting-ready-for-ets2-113-update.html).

The rest of the changes is relatively limited and non-critical, these are only very local "diffs" implemented on top of the previous stable 1.12 and 1.11 versions:

Code
Steam achievements
Added functionality to unbind keys/buttons/axes in game ui
Added cruise control grid option
Cruise control speed limited to truck speed limit speed (if enabled)
Quickload and quicksave
Bindable keys/buttons for increasing and decreasing of radio volume
Data
Fixed speed limits in some countries (Belgium, France, Poland, Slovakia)
Fixed license plate generation in some cities (Graz, Klagenfurt, Ostrava)

From this point of view this update should not break too many mods, but your mileage may vary. If you are playing the game with mods, it is always a good idea to make backups of your profile folder structure to safeguard older save game files, and be aware of means to revert back to earlier version if you deem it desirable. This is actually very easy on Steam - we are using the system of Steam betas for keeping older releases of the game accessible.

Retail variant of this game update, of course without the Steam Achievements, will be made available in a couple of days.

For the next game update to version 1.14, the changes in code and game data will be much bigger. We are merging in changes to the game world, especially the northern parts that need to be altered for having good connections to the future region of Scandinavia. A lot of game and engine code has been changed, and 1.14 will roll in various improvements that the programming team has queued up for release over circa past 3 months. And last but not least, finally the new Euro 6 DAF truck tractor is almost ready, with the last round of iterations based on feedback from DAF Trucks N.V. getting us very close to desired quality. Testing all this mix of changes and additions is a complex procedure, please have patience with us!

Holiday time is a quiet period in our office as members of our team are spending time with their families. But we know that our fans always crave for fresh information about our projects. So here we are, with a bunch of great-looking panoramas from Scandinavia!

(http://[b]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UwLUwc0Ledo/VJLYur2NxpI/AAAAAAAABZk/bIPHox8bxP0/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_001.jpg%5B/b%5D)

As you may have already noticed in some earlier screenshots we have published, there are considerable changes coming to the game environment. Several in-game graphic rendering elements have been altered or improved to achieve a richer color palette, as presented on the images in this blog post.

(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eHxMPwVkGwM/VJLYu7NBsrI/AAAAAAAABZo/SZ-ZkfVqN58/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_002.jpg)

The most noticeable changes to the systems are improvements to HDR tone-mapping calculations and sun shafts. Each weather condition now has its own specific lighting preset, allowing us to provide different scene illumination and reflectivity depending on the current state of game environment.

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5stQASGniek/VJLc_T_2doI/AAAAAAAABas/IBtC_ZCVjl0/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_009.jpg)

Sun shafts (sometimes dubbed "God rays") will be using a new calculation algorithm which creates softer and more lifelike effects - driving during sunset or sunrise will provide you with vistas you have not yet seen in ETS2. In order to improve the looks of scenes, we've also decided to alter our fog/haze calculation system.

(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ev2_3hiRWBU/VJLYu0i8O9I/AAAAAAAABac/DWDUfsKpNa4/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_003.jpg)

As the shaders and rendering code are changing, we also need to adjust quite a lot of game assets. Shaders and textures of many objects such as buildings or roads have to be updated in order to correct their specular and diffuse lighting properties to match the new system.

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-edaKyG5nSxA/VJLYvX3kwKI/AAAAAAAABZ0/Ckol3VFwg4o/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_004.jpg)

(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MQWRnbU9aDg/VJLYwEpiV6I/AAAAAAAABZ4/-Xb6VhUDgbk/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_005.jpg)

We are half-way through all this work, quite a lot of it is still ahead of us. We aim to release the improvements mentioned in this post alongside Scandinavia DLC. However, the visual changes will be very noticeable everywhere, it will not be just the new parts of the ETS2 world to benefit from the new graphical features. So even if you don't rush to buy Scandinavia right away when it's released, you will get the visual changes as a part of a free game update available for all Euro Truck Simulator 2 owners.

(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fe6fgA8yB18/VJLYwsHMkVI/AAAAAAAABaA/NYBPRvqnIc0/s1600/ets2_scandinavia_dlc_new_weather_006.jpg)

(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D_olMujSHpg/VJPvPAANmcI/AAAAAAAABbs/dETJ_3C8XVk/s1600/apple_ets2.jpg)

We are happy to announce that Euro Truck Simulator 2 is finally about to appear officially on Apple Mac OS X platform. But we are starting carefully - with a beta.

Please bear in mind that the current Mac build is still considered a beta and may contain bugs or other issues. If you already own the game license on Steam, and at the same time happen to be a Mac user bold enough to try a beta, we would be very happy to hear back from you on your experience with this testing release. But keep your patience in check if you consider buying the game just based on the existence of a beta - things happen, and we don't want to disappoint you guys if the beta process takes longer than we now hope.

The MacOS version of the game is not "just a port" - it is intended to be a first class citizen along with the Windows and Linux versions, based on the same living codebase. Therefore we should be able to always update all the different operating system versions in parallel and keep the feature sets in sync.

Adding Mac compatibility to our ever-changing game code was not an easy task, it has taken more effort and time than we anticipated. But choosing this approach was worth it. This preview version is in no way different from the official 1.15 version of ETS2, so people participating in the beta can already sign up to World of Trucks and take part in our SCS Polar Express special!

Leave your comments, thoughts and bug reports in our MAC beta forum please. Follow this step-by-step guide to obtain access to the beta on your computer.

Happy Trucking!

For fuck sakes.. They been working for ages with the Scandinavia DLC.. And its been known that its a DLC, just like Going East. You had to pay for it. They spent shitloads of time on the new DLC. Its not just same old prefabs.. Its whole damn new prefabs beginning with roads all the way to buildings and signs. It takes time, So I belive it would be fitting to actually ask for something in return for it. The Update of 1.17 will be free. So will the Mercedes. But the map wont, its an expansion to the map. IMO. SCS deserves it.

The script is nearly done i think, they have only to rewrite it.

Hax, I never said they shouldn't charge anything for it, I just said it's really expensive. Anyway...

And IMO it would be pretty nice to see this kind of "double trailer" concept instead of - or as well as - the one they're planning on integrating. I find their version very complicated since it involves 3 flex-joints instead of 2, less being more simple in my mind.

Then again, I guess their reason for using the complex method is to keep both trailers large and thus carrying more cargo. Still, it would be nice to see the "simple" way in there in there.

Actually the B-train (as seen above) Is much more simple and easier to manouver with. Than the dolly system they made in ETS2MP.. I belive it was just easier to make the double trailers in that way. You dont have to remodel the whole trailer to fit an 5th wheel behind it. You can just model that dolly and create hookup point behind the first trailer.

IMHO: They dont look pretty.. Nor will they handle well. Would've rather had either B trains or fully rigid combinations. (Truck having an cargobay + dolly + semi trailer)

Hell, I'd rather just have a truck with a container on the back. Maybe they should add that in a future update too? *hint hint*

They did throw up an idea of swap bodies being slight possible chance in future. Which would mean the truck would be tandem frame. and hopefully forget the idea of middle axle trailers and rather use dolly and swap body capable trailer.

Nice idea, but would I be able to do loads without hitching a trailer? Or haven't they said anything further about it?

Nothing after the initial blogpost of that idea. Otherwise i'd  guess you'd own the trailer frame and theres just containers on legs waiting at terminal to pickup.

Tyre grades coming soon :D

Quote from: http://steamcommunity.com/games/227300/announcements/detail/38639240975155037Today we would like to introduce one of the features that you can expect with the upcoming Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.22 - Tyre grades. We have already mentioned that we are looking into it in one of our earlier announcements. We are happy that it finally came to its fruition.

Inspired by actual European regulations, we tried to adapt reality to fit our game. All tyres are now graded based on three parameters: fuel efficiency, wet grip, and noise levels. The game takes tyre properties into account, so real life tyre grades correspond with in-game behaviour. Of course by long wear or damage, tyre quality may degrade.

We will now also support different tyre sizes. In the original game, we referred to a tyre (back then actually the whole wheel) just by its name. We are now enriching the simulation to include support for alternate tyre sizes, so the size is added to the naming convention.

While revisiting the tyres, we thought that it would be cool to add support for what we see in the tuning and modding community - tyre coloring. Stock tyres just sport the standard rubber look of course, but for additional tuning effect, the colour of designated parts of a tyre (like the manufacturer names or logos) can be altered. The in-game support is quite comfortable, allowing to choose the particular colour with a comfortable colour picker widget.

We are about to enter internal testing phase of this feature. As usual, before the final release, you can expect a round of Steam open betas - for those of you ready to help us out with community QA, or just cannot wait but experience any new features as soon as possible.

Oh, there is also a new original manufacturer-branded DLC coming, which will greatly expand your tyre choice ;).

Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack DLC

We are bringing you the very first officially licensed set of five trailers for Euro Truck Simulator 2. We've been in discussions with the Schwarzmüller Group to make this set since our trip to IAA 2014, so you can see it's taken us some time to finalize the licensing arrangement and to produce the content for the game. The resulting 3D trailer models are highly detailed and have been designed in accordance with technical references.  All told we are excited to say that we're raising the bar on quality again!

Here's the Steam Store link to Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack DLC.   ----  http://store.steampowered.com/app/388477

The trailers in this set include the Food Cistern, Curtain Sider, Low Bed, Refrigerated Trailer, and Logging Trailer. The Schwarzmüller Group develops, builds, and services commercial vehicles that are ideal for highly competitive and demanding businesses.
