Title: Internet cable "help"
Post by: DJ_Smashon on December 11, 2012, 14:04
So I have a 10m ADSL2+/RJ11 cable from my phone jacket into my room where my modem is.

And I am wondering if I do get lower ping if I move my modem closer to the phone jack so
I only need to use like a 1m ADLS2+/RJ11 cable instead of the 10m.

I've searched on google and some people are saying it wont be any difference at all and some are saying you will get lower ping.

ATM I do have ~45ms to closest speedtest.net server.

But I guess the cable outside my house and where ever it goes are aslo a shitty cable so I won't get any better ping but...

Thanks!

But I'll sooner or later move the modem so I get better wifi in whole house.. :P

You can notice differences in pings using high distances, but you will not notice any change into your house.

your modem is probably the bottleneck not the cable. Its not like antenna cable on TV that loses its streght by distance.

ADSL sucks. Your ping will never change if your connection doesnt change.
You dont need to make changes into your house network to get less ping.

Hmm i think your connection is fucked up (outside your house) you should contact your ISP and tell they about you are loosing signal. They may find a solution. I had your same issue with fibre, they came to my house and changed all the connection outside it. Now i dont have lag at all.

Hmm Okay... But Idk waiting for fibre instead they are making some fibre pretty close to my house and i've read that 2015 all in finland will have 100mbit internet :P

but btw a friend that live in the middle of fucking nowhere and i mean it have same isp and had only 11ms(i have 40ms to 50ms) to the host he got adsl2+ and have about 30km longer than me to the host.. fuck you logic? :P

might sound weird but the latency fixes that they have created for world of warcraft made my internet more stable when i was using a Dongle (the usb sticks to get internet, long boring story)

It won't make a difference. 9m of wire doesn't make a difference. 9000m does.

Also, it's not an "Internet Cable" since it's a phone line.

Internet cables are RJ45 compliant.
