Title: I think my videocard died, need help
Post by: Ethan on November 23, 2014, 20:21
I think my video card died but I need to be sure... I ain't no tech master... So  I'm using it and all of a sudden the mouse won't react, thinking dead battery, changed it, no difference. I go to put the side panel back on, don't know why, I'm thinking I must of hit something loose, nothing that I notice, but the video feed won't come back.. I unplug it (the monitor from the tower), plug it back in, nothing, changed back to my old one after restarting it, there's no feed anywhere.  Help someone..

I'm on my nexus and I have Skype and the nexus has a camera so I can show you my wire..

Re set the card. Push it till it wont go in any futher. Make sure there's adequate power going to it.

Does it have a fan? check if the fans are spinning up on the card. Does your PC beep when you turn it on?

If you have the side panel off (i dont know why you'd want it off for long periods of time anyway) something may of got caught or disloged the card. Make sure there's nothing blocking it what so ever.

Well using analog now instead of HDMI.. First thing i did was check the card, maybe I didn't check thoroughly enough..
Dobby: PC works fine, still boots, even old monitor plugged into tower gave me the video.. I'll will try to re set it. And panel was off cause I cleaned dust off, never remembered to put it back, and yes GPU has a fan..

re-set the board in the motherboard, the gpu works, fan is spinning and seems to be ok. lets see if its something with the input

edit
plugged the HDMI cord in the tower, switched from analog to HDMI. the analog feed is fine, the HDMI feed doesnt show up.. I cant figure out why the fan spins but no video source to it  :im_lost:

Does the fan spin really fast? as if its at 100%?

It spins normally, I don't know how to notice if the spinning is off.. I will run evga thing to see what's going on, see if I can find something in that.

Hes asking if it sounds like its spinning very fast as if its stressed, or sounds slower and relaxed. Kinda like when you hear your pc go into jet mode, thats fast, then it slows down and relaxes

I fixed it.. when I reset the board it would spin and all that like normal, but when I took a closer look the front of the board wasnt all the down on the motherboard, thus no complete feed... It works now and im back to 1920X1080...

Thank you everyone for your help.
