Title: Can My Computer Handle a GTX 760?
Post by: Jenova_Project on January 02, 2014, 01:29
I have a desktop computer and I was wondering if it can handle a GTX 760. My computer specs are below.

Type: HP Pavilion Elite
Model: HPE-000
RAM: 6.00GB
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor 3.00GHz
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5570

As long as you have a 500+ watt power supply with two 6 pin PCIE connectors, you'll be fine.

Which an OEM machine most likely does not have. That has Radeon HD 5570 hooked up to it. I think it uses a single 6 pin or even molex to get its power. But those PSUs rarely have anything extra. Also the PCI express lanes are probably v2 in the motherboard. While Most new graphic cards require already pciE v3

PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E 3.0 are compatible, just the transfer speed etc is slower but graphics card still don't hit the maximum transfer rate for PCI-E 2.0 so no performance hits are visible.

Also wont an old processor like the Phenom bottleneck that sort of graphics card? It's better in IPCs than the FX series and those APUs but it's architecture is still relatively old.

Yep it will more then likely bottleneck it cause it will perform better then the CPU, if you wanna upgrade just get something like a 7870 otherwise you will need a new cpu to not have a huge bottleneck.

Also with those kind of cases there might not be enough physical room and as others have stated probably the power supply cost less to make then a happy meal from maccas in other words it's crap. You would have to get a new PSU 500watts or more of decent quality.
