Hi, i need to replace my desktop with a laptop which i also could use at school.
I am not really familiar with hardware so please help me.
At the moment i am thinking about this:
Windows 8.1 64
4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4800MQ Processor
Included 2 Year Warranty
Intel® HD Graphics
17.3-inch diagonal Full HD LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080) Touchscreen
8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
$20 off Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2013
Security Software Trial
Two 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Batteries
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
Standard Keyboard
Webcam and Microphone
802.11b/g/n WLAN [1x1]
The calculator on hp's webstore said $1.184,98 Which is 860euro
Is this overpriced for what i get?
Don't blame me haha i really don't know what to buy.
But i need to run very big software for my study, and maybe some small games but that doesn't really bother me.
Most imported thing would be the use of software like "AutoCAD".
why hp? asus is much better
asus died in my hands while hp survived me. :happycmas:
Do you plan on playing games with it ? Because i only see an "Intel® HD Graphics" which won't bring you far with games.

Yep im going with this as well.

Most important thing would be the use of software like "AutoCAD".
so more use out of it would be resource intense programs, not so much of a 'gaming' pc
AutoCAD what? just AutoCAD the 2D drawing? or Inventor? 3DS Max?
If its jsut the 2D drawing AutoCAD, then intel graphics would be fine. But reiterating what Vinny said, if you intend on playing any game, find another laptop that doesnt have Intel Graphics.
You say you need to run big apps, like what?
I think he needs a computer that can run AutoCAD and other hardware intense programs like that and that could also play games, maybe like Euro truck or something like that (I dont know what games he means)
Intel HD Graphics won't be a good match if you're using AutoCAD with 3D stuff, it will probably run but not with desirable performance.
Ask in the AutoCAD forums about it and see if there's any users with a similar laptop using AutoCAD.
Take a look at the ASUS K56CB, I got that one and it runs everything fine, and it's thin and beautiful designed (XX311H)
But hp sucks anyway. If you downgrade to a i5 (which still is a very good cpu, i have one) you could probably get a similar laptop with a good graphic card for a similar price.
I use a 5 year old dell with intel and autocad works just fine. I use autocad, solidworks, inventer, pro/engineer, mechanica, pro/mechanism...haven't had a problem with running any of these (all are engineering softwares). If you are doing massive FEA simulations, it can slow down. But chances are you won't be doing that.
Thanks for reply's.
Yes indeed i am not such a gamer (only CT lol) But i need to run very large software for my school.
And yes it's AutoCAD 3d max
And many other software used for the study Bouwkunde (engineering/architecture)
It's very important that i can run this software, cause i will live on my own so the laptop will be my home-pc too :s
But i am planning to buy a second big screen 27inch for my room 200km away from my parents house :)
I am not really a gamer, but i think the specs i need are pretty similar to game-laptops..
Asus > hp. Ive broken many of well, everything cept custom desktops and an asus i literally hace 7 broken hp's in my house. Parents are stupid amd keep buying the same garbage
Okay so it has to be a asus,
Well will a I5 processor work properly for me?
Asus with I7 usually has a price above 900euro, which is quiet a lot..

i5 will definitely do. It would be more confortable for us if you tell your max budget

Think about 800/900 euro with sponsoring of parents and granny's :P
But let's say if i can get a laptop for less which will also work, then it will be very welcome.

It looks good, will definitely do.
Just to ask, will 15,6 inch be enough either or do you think it's to small to work with?

the resolution will drop from 1600x900 to 1366x768. So if you use softwares like photoshop or other graphic stuff it might not be very pleasant to work on a small resolution.

it seems like the exact same but with 1080p screen. and +100€, and also a little better graph card but still is a good laptop for your use.
I'd buy that if you could, 1080p rocks, also the GT740M is powerful, I got it :P

everyone hates apple who doesnt have one... or cant afford it.
mines fucking awesome, use it for my a levels all the time. Boots faster than any of my mates shitty HP's or their windows computers, loads applications and documents faster and it just better to use. All these other laptops claim to have similar specs yet none run as well as a macbook... my mate spent 3 hours doing a windows update on his laptop.
College/work = macbook pro
only reason you wouldnt is you cant afford it
i sound so big headed there but its the truth

Any recent Windows laptop with a SSD boots in single-digit figures (seconds). The SSD only cost £72 too.

I can afford a hell of a lot more MacBook Pros than a lot of people here (Yes, I sound like a spoiled brat, sorry I have money) but why would I spend thousands of dollars to get a MacBook Pro if I can spend $400 - $500 to get a Windows PC and Dual boot Linux or have a standalone install of Linux?
My Laptop turns on and is fully usable within 30 seconds. It has a slow HDD.
2 of 3 of my roommates have MacBook pros. One of them bought it because "it looks nice". He has no idea what he's doing when it comes to computers. The other one got it and now hates it because he saw me using Ubuntu.
Windows = Basically guaranteed supported software
Windows = Gaming
I use Linux for programming and classes for university.
rekt.

i agree mac sucks for games but the main point is school/college.. but everyone has opinions/preference.. that was just mine, i'd recommend a macbook pro like mine over any over laptop for school/college use
i did also get rekt.. gz hobo. :'(

SSD ftw
SSDs in laptops are fine when going mobile. Even i got 2 128GB SSDs in my toughbook. Saves your battery bit more as it dosent have a motor to spin the hard drive. Also isnt so fragile if you collide the laptop with something.
Macbook might do the thinkg for your school. BUT think about when the school is over. its useless because it cant run anything useful. Apart from some video and audio tools
I'm personally running just plain ubuntu with gnome desktop on mine.

Looks pretty good. Not for heavy gaming but isnt it supposed to be your school laptop anyways? Will run more demanding 3D programs and such which may use graphic processor for rendering

Yes it is for school purposes "only"
But because i thought if it "can" run games, it should be fine for my school software for sure :)
I am very happy with my ASUS N Serie
Thank you all for helping me :ccmas:
