Title: PS3 problem
Post by: Boy on September 09, 2013, 22:15
Hi, i know this isn't the place to post this.
But just in case someone of you simple know this problem and fix.
tell me  :like:

Okay, so i just updated my system to the newest version for ps3.
I got a ps3slim from 2010, with 120gb harddrive.

After turning it on it works 1-2 minutes, and crashes.
I don't even see the tiny red light, it simply goes dead.

However when i reconnect the cable for power, the tiny red light shows up, and i can start it again.
But still 1 or 2 minutes after.. the system goes dead again..

So got any clue? :)
If not i'll call the iwannaplaygtaVonps3-911 :P

looks like your firmware is corrupted. If you have built in an extra HDD because the default PS3 slim comes 12GB HDD , you could try to unmount the extra built in HDD, and see if it works.

This would only be the case, if you built in an extra HDD for extra storage place in the first place. I bought y ps3 slim, and it had only 12gb space so i bought an extra hdd to save shit and so. Since thats a common thing, it might apply to you too. Still then its the case, where the ps3 has installed the newest firmware.

Perhaps you can google around , if you can put older firmware on an usb drive and downgrade it , or upgrade it properly.

What software version did you update to?

Either Sony fucked up a release again or the update was interrupted and is now corrupt.

Wonder could you manually flash to older firmware if you get that firmware update on like USB stick and plug that in to the console. If you find the update from internet.

okay,
-I never changed anything about my ps3.
Its just the official version. tonight I'll check the firmware and version of my ps.

Konali I did already search on the internet, but nothing helps.
and I did the update that was ready from may or something.
never had the time to update it.

Do you really think they could have fuck up the update files?

Try downloading the latest update here: http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/index.htm
Move that to a flash drive.

Boot into Safe Mode:

And update to the latest 4.46. Hopefully it works.

Can't downgrade unless you have a special chip that you have to "lassen" on the motherboard

I am not sure if i have 4.46, cause my ps3 gives me arround 40seconds to change settings before it shut down.
But i might be able to turn on the safe mode,
and also Manuel update it with the usb connection.

Thanks for all comments, i'll report if it worked or not.

I did all the things in safe mode to reset my ps3.
This worked! (for now at least)
Thanks hobo for help and others too. :like:

aaaaaaaaand the problem is back..
I now know what the problem is finally.
Now i need to find a smart guy who knows how to fix it.
I need a new power thingy, which costs 70euro.
+25euro for the smart guy.

Well it's still more cheap than buying a new 120gb ps3 slim aka 200euro.

Ps. i am not totally offline cause i can play gta5 15-60 minutes untill it shuts itself down to prevent damage.
So yes i can do 1 mission a day :P  :like:

to be continued..... (if someone knows how to install the new power thing please reply or pm :) )

is that "power thingy" the power supply inside or what? Sounds like an overheating or electrical shorting that shutsdown to prevent damage.. Slims running really really hot after while so i would guess its overheating..

It's not overheating,
It's indeed the power supply inside, and it's a by song unknown but by players known problem.
specially for ps3-slim 120gb versions made and sold in okt/nov/dec 2009.

I found a guy who can might help me get a replacement and he can hopefully help me install it myself.

Oh yeah dog, my ps3 is not getting hot at all. and the cooler is still doing his job perfectly.

This might work?
It's worth the try? cause otherwise it needs to be removed anyways and replaced.

My slim (320GB) runs damn hot.. I measured the exhaust air to be around 50-60C.. I dont know why they put the only fan there horizontally which is not as effective as normally vertically

Found the problem.
In dutch we call it "voeding" I think in english it's the power supply or at least the big black thing inside the ps3 xD
I will let it fix by someone who knows what he's doing, costs will be arround 80euro total.
