Post by: Hobo on November 24, 2012, 18:58
My dad is tired of listening to me complain about my shitty laptop so he's buying me a new one for Christmas but giving it to me early.

Old laptop:
Acer Aspire 3100

Core Logic Chipset   ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100
RAM    1.25 GB
Video Subsystem   ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 integrated 3D graphics, with up to 128 MB of shared system memory
HDD      80GB
1.2 hour battery life
Windows XP[/hide]
Runs GTA:SA at ~10-20 FPS and Minecraft at ~5 FPS

New Laptop
ASUS X54C-BBK17
[hide=Specs]CPU Type     Intel Pentium B960 2.2GHz Dual Core
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB HDD
Intel HD Graphics
3-4 hours battery life
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit[/hide]

I'm excited to actually use some decent mods at more than 10FPS :D

that laptop is decent for gaming but because it uses mobile parts it's going to be less powerful than desktop

Alright, Chiming in on this.

Clutch is right, no laptop is for gaming.

It might be 'branded' as a 'gaymen laptop', but it's utter shit.

If you're a gamer and you're looking for a laptop to play games on, you aren't a gamer, you're just some plebeian pseudo-gamer.

Desktop Master-Race.

Got To throw my nickel in on this.

Sure A laptop not may be for hardcore Gaming, But Hell with my laptop I Can Play GTA 4 at 20-25 FPS On high and its playable.

Yes, Most Desktops Can beat the complete Shit Out of My laptop When it comes to gaming.

But Look at the Bigger Picture, For Kids Like Clutch And Dan, Gaming Is a must, But for People Who have Jobs And/or go to school we need the portability, We need the portable power. I cant Tell you how many times I have take my Personal Laptop to work with me, to write reports while I could still use my Patrol Computer To run plates.
I can take my computer anywhere and Game, Work, Or Watch a movie.

Lets see you desktop People Take Hoist your desktop on a carryon bag, set it up in 1 minute and Listen to music, Watch a movie or play a game before the plane even takes off.

And this is why Laptop Will Always Have my Vote, I can carry it wherever, and do things in places a desktop Couldn't

Not a bad Lappy Hobo, but if it were me, If possible I'd Switch the Intel Chipset for one With a AMD, The processor May be a Tiny Step down, But it will for sure make up for it with the ATI Radeon Integrated Graphics Compared to the intel.

If you consider any laptop as a good computer for gaming, you would be better off with a Wii. -Joshy

But seriously, the confined insides of a laptop really doesn't help with cooling, plus mobile parts are generally always worse than desktop counterparts.

But congratulations anyway my dustman friend!

Alright, yes, laptops are good for portability, but you shouldn't be buying an expensive gaymen laptop if you're only going to use if for work / school related purposes.

But you have seem to lost track of this topic, he's getting this laptop to play games, and if you want to play games, get a desktop.

You shouldn't be fucking playing games at your work, or at school.

Im carrying about 4 years old core 2 duo 2.0ghz with 2GB of ram and some radeon 4200 graphic chip. I dont really care if somebody bothers to steal it as its so old. Probably only laptop that has lasted this long on me. And i carry it everywhere ireally go. + it runs GTA Sa with 100 fps with few tweaks that improve gta performance by upgrading the max memory usage and such also i got some light mods on it and runs fine. New laptops tend to be made so slim that they run at 80c in normal use. Just my two cents.

well you all need to realize that laptops in general are for computing on the go, now if u want to compare gaming ability it's pretty much balanced, you can play the newest game once your laptop has the specs to match, they are both computers at the end of the day and do the exact same things, only time it gets different is if you want to be a hardcore gamer, then you would not be smart to use a laptop.

i personally find laptops more convenient for gaming. but anyway good on ya with the new laptop hobo, now i get to stalk your new i.p.  :herpderp:

Ok, I'll get the new laptop sometime within 7-10 business days. Setting everything up on it shouldn't take too long. You can pm me the server ip or whatever. I haven't played minecraft in a while, the 5 FPS wasn't doing it for me.

Bit late to this party but the Intel HD I'm assuming it will be the 3000 series isn't very good for playing games at all to be honest. I was using an Asus i3 2.4, HD 3000, 6Gb DDR3 and it was pretty crappy. If you are in the UK I'm sure you could pick up a good laptop from Comet as they are shutting down my brother just picked one up reduced from £380 to £180 although it has Windows 8 and I'm not a fan

I actually got the laptop a few days ago. It does have Intel HD 3000 graphics. Not bad for games such as GTA:SA and Minecraft but it wont be able to graphically handle games that need more than 32mb of dedicated video ram. Basically, no modern games.

Plays GTA:SA at 50-100 FPS
