Title: Time for a change soon?
Post by: zimon on July 21, 2012, 16:16
I think volt host will be DDoS'ed until they quit there service ! :( :(
and if we continue to use there servers we will have a server thats "crash" all times like the last 4 weeks :(
I think it is time to look for a new host. but I know that you (mick) have some good reason that you have not done that yet, what is that reason if there is any ?

Dude You don't even realise how shit money this is... 1 slot is like 0.50 euro's, so make it x100, 50 euro's monthly.. it ain't gonna go so easy

every hosting company probably gets DDoSed more than you think. its just a matter if the company has the equipment to block it and safeguard their clients.. if the hosts does get changed it will probably be a real long process because he has to make sure the GM is compatible and works correctly with it...

The host we currently use has been up 96.18% in the last 7 days. That's better than a lot of other hosts. The slots are cheap too. We do not need a new host.
No.

There are better host, don't know their name but if you need it then i ask it to nemesis. he had a good host his server was 99% online yeah no shit the server was always online. Volt host is a bit failing, but i don't think mick would change cuz host is not free

That uptime is definitely not good. I think the server should be hosted on a (Linux) VPS personally as they normally have DDoS protection and a lot more flexibility to what you can do.

I don't think we'll be moving from volt.

The only good server will be at one of Hax's Linux Servers :)
no possibility for DDoS'ing and Hax would take care of it :D

I have a server with Volt Host, and the uptime of my server has been 100% (minus times where I took it off for updates). Perhaps mick could change to another server within Volt Host?

what about a dedicated server with Linux?

It seems like New york and France servers are the main problems with volt.

But when we did switch ip, we were still being attacked, almost instantly. I've got a thought it's aimed at CVT not necessarily Volt.

Its tons of banned players from cvt so.. :P You have a little point there Lindsey.

Ive got my test server in France. Im not sure where CVT is hosted but its been up when CVT has been down.

I agree im sure its aimed at CVT from banned players, Probably directly to CVT.

Im not sure if mick switched servers (Places) to see if it was volt being ddosed.

im 75% sure its aimed directly to CVT though.

I could provide administrators with knowns serials from attacks [This program uses the same serial for every connection(attack@server)] Ive tested this program myself on a test server and also got someone else to do the same. They both returned the same serials.

I've heard about many players that have been hacked and then the hacked got banned from cvt and that's why this is happening... if you haven't switched places mick so you should try and see if you can...

Maybe mick could contact Volt Host, and request extra security for the FR1 server? (if Volt is willing to help out)

It does cost a lot for DDoS protection i think.

I thought volt-host was ddos protected. For a vps, DDoS protection does cost quite a bit.

you'd expect any company that hosts servers like this would have protection but it's a lot more profitable not to :P

well, obviously, their protection isnt good enough

I feel like a broken record, as I will say again and again, you can NEVER FULLY PROTECT yourself from a DDoS attack, unless you are completely disconnected from the internet.

You can buy the hardware that performs better, and to get close to almost full filtering, you'd be spending tens of thousands of dollars.

Also @Snake, Hax wouldn't want to run this server, and neither would I.

I think we're talking about 10's of thousands if you're going full out.

Well, most of these attacks that bring down somewhat seasoned hosts such as volt-host require that full out solution.

Yep. Now I ask myself this question, why do I still lurk here, all I'm doing is getting cancer from it. Cancer headquarters for international use.
