We should move the server to America to decrease ping. If you actually think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

How things are routed:
Server > C Class Machine > B Class Machine > A Class Machine
The server is located in France, and the closest A Class Machine is probably in UK, which means it takes longer to get to the A class machine - Which means higher ping for everybody.

Now America has a majority of the A Class machines, and if the server were to be hosted in America, it would take much less time to get routed - Which means lower ping for most people, might have a small change in ping other players polar opposite to america, but, oh well.

It just works that way.

Not to mention that America could provide better connections.

stop talking BS.. its not an european serv but a global one and everyone is welcome.

about the idea i say -1, because 1000 ping is huge.. and huge ping = huge lags = a lot of ramming .

Higher allowed ping average means more issues for the rest of the server, lag and ramming being the main ones.

Follow some of the tips given in the help forum to decrease your lag and ping.

Are you friggin serious. The server lag is shocking enough without increasing the ping limit by 350!! That would cause like everyone to leave.
Title: Re: our ping
Post by: Partyroo on November 04, 2011, 14:31
One of the reasons why servers such as CT have ping limits, is because if you have a latency of 1000, that is 1 second of lag. For a server based on driving that is a LOT. I'm not a qualified Internet technician but I believe you could also probably have other side effects like cars not behaving as they should.

You can do out of game things to help your latency such as have someone look at the copper wiring in your house, or get a new modem. Many things can contribute to high latency. Overall its just better to have a ping limit that is not too ridiculous, but also does not let in the bad lagers.
Title: Re: our ping
Post by: Joshy on November 04, 2011, 16:33
1000ms ping is catastrophically dangerous. It's like when I'm a cop, I ram suspects and they don't stop, why = they got high ping so to them I'm ramming where they were up to 650ms ago. When I'm a suspect, they can ram me fine, why = they got high ping, they ram the car that appears up to 650ms behind and that's actually the front of my car... = wipeout.

Increasing ping limit from 650ms to 1000ms is asking for trouble. If you have ADSL / vDSL / SDSL (w/e) or the 'internet through phone line' check for interference, remove bellwires (if you don't have pulse-tone phone) and possibly consider in better shielded wires. For interference you can check by getting a handheld AM (MW) radio and tuning it to 612kHZ and just walking around your house. Source: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/rein.htm

Here's the connection master talking. What you said makes no sense at all. Have you read all the posts in this topic?
Lowering the ping limit on the server will NOT solve your ping problem. Your ping remains the same because YOU are the one with problems, NOT the server.

More ping = more delay => more accidentally ramming
Players won't be kicked, but there is the 80 player limit
for more than 3000 users (according to $nake)
=> there will be no change in the player count + really bad gaming experience
=> less fun

Less ping = Less delay => accidentally ramming reduced
High ping players will be kicked, but other players with less ping will take their place
=> no change in the player count + better gaming experience
=> more fun

Snake's idea is not bad at all

Just an example for americans/aussies:

00:00 - 06:00 Sleeping
08:00 - 16:00 School/Job
16:00 - 00:00 Free time : In this time the ping limit should be increased for them
Title: Re: our ping
Post by: Ephraim_Renais on November 08, 2011, 22:53
But not everybody works during the day.  I for one work nights and a lowered ping might make me go to another server and never recommend this one to my friends.

The ping limit should stay the same, not increasing or decreasing dependent on the prime time of a certain part of the planet.

No offence $nake but i really dont like this idea. There is no possiblen way that it could be moulded to fit all of us. We all have different lives and things that we need to do. For example we might play for a bit on the weekend day. Go out for dinner come back and we wanna play more but there's a stupid limit. Honestly this idea would probably lose the Australian players from cvt.

Even if there was an agreement (which i guarentee there wouldnt) you would have to script in a limit for every hour pretty much. Oh hangon. Wait... That causes LAG!!

Not to mention people doing night shifts and so on...

Keep the system like it is, it's good enough, it does the job. To be honest there isn't many ways to improve a simple ping kick system...

+1 for Matt. This server is not only for aussies and americans. You talk about them, but you forgot who is in the top of the demographic list. People around the entire world come to play, and it would be wrong to not consider everyone.

That red headed bitch is taking the country downhill. But, she promised us National Broadband Network, internet 100 times faster than we have, so i wouldve voted for her. But like all politics, what they say is never what they do.

So im stuck with the internet i have, one of the fastest download/connection speeds i have, available in my state. Yet i still have ~400 ping. There used to be a time where i played on ~300. I want that back. Its Australia's connection to Europe, that causes problems. Its not Europe, but the connection between us. I have like, 290 ping to servers in the US. SO it would maybe raise ping to Europeans, but everyone would have a smaller range of ping, between highest and lowest.
As said by mick on G+, he might, (not will), move the host to another location, staying with Volt-Host. I wish, and hope it will be done.
Thats 1 of 2 reasons ive been less active on CVT lately, because im bored of having 400+ ping, because the only thing i can do without people fucking complaining about my ping which i cant fix, is missions that dont involve other people. (Artic, Flight, etc)
I do attend the occasional carshow, but i would enter, not spectate more events if i had lower ping, because imo, it give me the unfair advantage of being able to lag ram people from infront, but next to them on their screen.

I was contemplating on resigning as moderator, and being an inactive player. But, micks CT chip did its magic :P
Im not sucking up to mick, to change server locations, or trying to get attention, but its just how i currently feel.

Fell free to hate, im just explaining my thoughts.

I agree with sandie. The host should be in the us. Because then its close for everyone. Not jist europeans.
Not only that, but i have so much less ping spikes, like it stays within, 5-10, doesnt spike or drop more then that at a time or in one direction three times in a row, (EG: 250 > 254 > 252 > 249 > 250) compared to EU.

Since I am aussie, I think that this idea would be taking away some of our freedom to play on the server when we want to.

To the original idea (1000 ping limit), -100000. This would make the game REALLY laggy.

You do realise that if it goes in the US, depending on where & how good the server is, it will be worse if you moved it then it is now...
The only place it could go that would be right for Australia is California, or elsewhere on the West Coast. I know from experience that most US servers (I DO NOT KNOW IF THE SAME DOES APPLY FOR SA-MP SERVERS) have terrible connection to Australia.

No matter where you move the server there is going to be somewhere that is crap. Think, where it is now, the farthest away is about New Zealand.
MAYBE move it to Germany, then it's more Samoa. But no matter where you move it there will be problems. I think there could be more Europeans on the server then any other nation. It makes more sense for the server to be in Europe.

If it isn't broken don't fix it! Yes some Aussies are unable to connect, that is our Governments problem not the servers.
