what has portugal given to the world that could compare with things such as, space travel, flight, medicines, countless forms of technology and aid to other countries in crisis. im sure portugal is a great country but doesnt compare to america when speaking about advances. and about people not knowing where portugal is... every country has dumb people.

portugal- 1000 years and really nothing special to show for it.

usa - 240 years of breakthroughs and advances in every thing pretty much.

not bragging or even trying to put down. but when someone makes a post like this i feel the need to bring some facts into the discussion.

Be smart raided, your country is thousand times larger than mine, any country who had that size and resources would be the same or better in tec advance.

It doesn't matter how much people are online it's about how much fun you have.

X_Raided

not true. take germany for example. a relatively small country but back during ww11 they were probably the most technologically advanced country in the world. and not just them.  size doesnt really dictate how advanced a country could be. sure it provides more resources but thats not what were talking about. your extra 640 years should have made up for being a small country.

I wanna say something

Macedonia is also small country but we have big and great history. I'll just take Alexander the Great for example, he extended the country all on 3 continents, Africa, Europe and Asia. He extended the country till India :)

Plus, Americans, your country was discovered by Europeans. :) All Americans are actually from Europe, just the uncivilized ppl on, Indians or whatever are they called :)

Portugal was one of the best (if not the best) in explorations in the 15th and 16th century.

yep, i saw on this topic pictures from NASA on the moon ..

But what would you do if you didn't have planes ? The first plane that flight was in Romania, also the first street with lights .

X_Raided

the first street with lights....hahahahahahahahahahaha oh god where would we be without romania!

and your wrong the first POWERED and CONTROLLED flight was done by the Wright Brothers in good ol America , go read a history book bud.

and brane there is actually been new evidence found that would suggest the first explorers to america were actually the chinese on the west coast. of course there is no way to prove it but many people now believe it to be true. everyone now knows it wasnt christopher columbus from europe that discovered america first.

Quote from: Wikipedia "Wright Brothers"
The Wright brothers, Orville (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and Wilbur (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912), were two American brothers, inventors, and aviation pioneers who were credited[1][2][3] with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight, on December 17, 1903.

Quote from: street light, go google it
The earliest lamps were used by Greek and Roman civilizations, where light primarily served the purpose of security, both to protect the wanderer from tripping over something on the path as well as keeping the potential robbers at bay. At that time oil lamps were used predominantly as they provided a long-lasting and moderate flame. The Romans had a word 'laternarius', which was a term for a slave responsible for lighting up the oil lamps in front of their villas. This task continued to be kept for a special person as far as up to Middle Ages where the so-called 'link boys' escorted people from one place to another through the murky winding streets of medieval towns.
Before incandescent lamps, candle lighting was employed in cities. The earliest lamps required that a lamplighter tour the town at dusk, lighting each of the lamps, but later designs employed ignition devices that would automatically strike the flame when the gas supply was activated. The earliest of such street lamps were built in the Arab Empire,[1] especially in Córdoba, Spain, Cairo, Egypt, and Baghdad, Iraq ( around 1000 AD ).[2] The first modern street lamps, which used kerosene, were introduced in Lviv in what was then the Austrian Empire in 1853.
