The House Camping issue

The best way to resolve this is to make house-buying back the way it was and to compare situations:


- OLD way:
Random guy raises money, dreams of 5 slot house.
5 slot house is sold, Random guy doesn't have enough money, let's it pass, house is bought by someone else.
Random guy raises all the money and waits for another 5 slot to become available.
When it does, sells old house races to the house and buys it, victory! (other random guys with all the money should have made it first to the house).


- NEW way:


Random guy raises money, dreams of 5 slot house, random guy has all the money.
5 slot is sold, Random guy cannot buy it for 24 hours (if I remember correctly).
24 hours gives time to a horde of random guys to raise the money by their particular means (borrow, sell stuff, etc.)
When house becomes available, random guy and the horde sell their house and race off to buy the new one.
In anticipation of this, some sell the house in advance, so when it becomes available, all they have to do is buy it.
Other random guys think the same. In anticipation, each one chooses to stick close to the house, to make it before the others, so naturally they start camping, not willing to allow anyone to get it before them.


So, the new way is bad because it allows anticipation of the moment the house becomes available, so more get the money, more get prepared for the moment, more know what they're up against and try to anticipate everything, so in the end, the house is bought by a lucky motherfucker, who probably had no clue about what was going on and just proceeded like in the OLD way.
In comparison, the old way doesn't allow anticipation, the moment the house becomes available, 'there's not time to evaluate the opposition and take measures, so the number of random guys who would have all the money at that moment will be far less, and IF there would even be more then 1, the fastest should get the house. Thus, no camping, no issues, no complaints about fairness.

A suggestion to maybe help the situation. When a player sells a house, it doesn't show up as "Not available" or in the /forsale command but goes invisible, has no icon but will still become available when it's random timer ends.

I guess that would be a compromise. I was not summarizing, I was suggesting to make things back the way they were, but keeping the house off the grid until it becomes available could work just in the same way, but it only makes me wonder this: if it would stay off the radar the whole day, why keep this system? why does a house have to stay 24 hours before it can be bought? even though no-one would know it?

No one knows when it becomes available and getting it remains a matter of pure luck. Only this time you won't have campers waiting for it. First come first served.
People might still camp, I agree, but I don't know how many are willing to wait up to 16 hours for a house (presuming the chosen time is like 30 hours and a half). If they do wait (Desperate Housecampers LOL =)) ) , then their effort will be well payed.

Thats the current house system, except its 1-24 hours. This will solve nothing.

in the beginning i thought that there would not be any problem with random times for houses that will be for sale. but then the ; house camper' was created and there are lots of reason why it is fair or unfair, but unless the system would be changed or the rules would be updated there will be people that are mad at the staff and other players to.

So i hope My suggestion to joshy about kick house campers at any time would help a little bit to atleast stop the whinery against staff and eventually they could be jailed to.

I don't agree with Konali here. What we are basically doing here is shifting resources in a whole new direction. The reason why most people will get kicked out of the server will be house camping, This will take more than 60% of the admin/mods time. It happened to me more than once, I reported a player who didn't persist in ramming but rammed me at least twice using /report and nothing happened, in cases where he rammed me after I actually /report him, with at least one admin online. I believe that for example ramming or cheating, and general anti-play behavior is a much more basic issue, and ruining the gameplay on a much more basic level. Giving admins/mods a big extra task to carry, will take a lot of time off their hands and it will also make this unfair, because people will continue to camp when there are no admins online.
I have 2 ideas that promise to kill house camping:
1 (simple to implement, not the most affective) Make very long, invisible timers. Of course, mick believes that this re-enables a form of house trading and I agree because player A will /sellhouse, player B will give him some money in exchange for that information and then player B camps at the house (being the only one who knows), but, if we introduce a really long timer, let's say between 2 and 5 days, it will be very very difficult for player B to be online at the exact time the house becomes available, so people will be reluctant to give away their hard earned cash for a simple unlikely possibility. Also, we can disallow people doing this, making advertising really hard, so most people will just /sellhouse and nothing more.
2 (more difficult to implement, 100% effective) House auctions for every house coming for sale. The house auction system was a huge success among the players in CVT. Lots of people want more. We could make such a system for every house, making players very excited, and eradicating something that carries phenomenal hatred from I'd say 90% of them (some people demanding harsh punishments for house campers, such as bans). In my mind, the system should work like so:
-          Player a /sellhouse
-          House becomes instantly available for bidding for a fixed, visible amount of time, I'd say 3 days so we can give lots of players the chance to see it
-          People bid
-          Highest bid wins the house
If the player already has a house, he can still bid, and if he wins, his houses get automatically swapped, of course, his cars remaining intact. This will truly make it for a very dynamic game, and things will be "as they should" Cool looking houses owned by experienced, respected players, not so cool houses, owned by newer players, and will give players what they really want. TheSandaman would finally be complete with a nice house of his choice for god's sake, etc
If we'd want to avoid sniping (although it happens in real life) we could introduce a variable timer, maybe between 1 and 3 days.

P.S. I wanted to make a new suggestions topic, but since there are so many about house campers, I decided to post here.

You're right. Auctions will remove camping for good.
On the other hand, players who don't spend more than 2 hours per day playing, will celebrate their 50 anniversary before they own a house.

And I still don't understand why is camping so wrong. Anyone has a chance for a house if they are fast enough.

Prices may indeed rise, in which case we can simply lower timers on houses, making it for fewer bids, and lower general prices. Also, I'm thinking in the beginning people will rush and offer extreme sums of money for some houses but afterwords prices will settle down.

only online auctions will help, every house should get on bid, but not this stupid forum bids what were before..
who wants to buy a house, need to get on server and place his bid, server will check his cash..
its this same as if manager wants to buy a player in browser games, he ned to go to transfers tab,
be in game, not only get on game's forum..
